Alvin Kamara not playing against Panthers? Saints RB’s absence explained

Due to a suspension, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara will be unable to play the Carolina Panthers on Monday.

The running back did not play in the Saints’ season opener against the Tennessee Titans because of a suspension he received from the NFL before the season’s start for an incident in Las Vegas in February 2022.

On February 6, Alvin Kamara was arrested and charged with violence resulting in serious bodily injury.

Darnell Greene, the victim, told police that the incident involving the Saints running back occurred as he was waiting for an elevator. He was prevented from entering and assaulted by many members of Kamara’s team, who were in town for the Pro Bowl.

After negotiating a plea deal, Kamara avoided a trial and prison time. After a ‘good’ meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, there was optimism in the New Orleans Saints camp that Kamara would escape suspension. However, this was not the case, and Kamara received a three-game suspension.

Before Goodell’s judgment was made public, Kamara commented about the incident:

“I never want to be a part of anything that causes someone to be hurt or severely injured.” Poor judgment on my part and unquestionably a stupid choice.”

When will Alvin Kamara return?

He is eligible to return to the active roster of the New Orleans Saints after Week 3, which means he will be inactive for the September 24 game against the Green Bay Packers.

Alvin Kamara will be eligible to play in the 2023 season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 1. Until then, the Saints’ backfield will be led by Jamaal Williams.

In 2022, Williams scored 17 touchdowns with the Detroit Lions.
