Several NBA players are members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses religion. The world’s most prominent basketball league is varied, with players of all ethnicities, races, beliefs, and sexual orientations.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are a Christian sect that dates back to the 1870s. It will have over 100,000 congregations by 2022; many of its members will be world-famous athletes.

3 NBA Jehovah’s Witnesses: Danny Granger, Darren Collison
#1 Darren Collison
From 2009 through 2019, Darren Collison played in the NBA. He played four years for the Indiana Pacers and three for the Sacramento Kings. The point guard has also played for Dallas, New Orleans, and both clubs in Los Angeles.
In 2019, the guard decided to quit and focus on his beliefs. He took this choice at 31, following a season in which he averaged 11.2 points and 6 assists a game for the Pacers.
“While I still love basketball, I know there is something more important, which is my family and my faith,” Collison said before announcing his retirement.
The point guard returned to the NBA in December 2021, signing a 10-day deal with the Lakers. He only played in three games before being released by the Lakers when his contract expired.
#2 Dewayne Dedmon
Dewayne Dedmon is one of the NBA’s top role players. However, if he had followed his mother’s advice, the 7-foot center may have yet to make it to the NBA. Dedmon was raised in a Jehovah’s Witness family, and his mother prevented him from playing basketball.
He was underweight as a youth and wasn’t trained because of his family’s beliefs. However, he worked hard and was finally drafted by the NBA.
Dedmon has yet to win a championship and is nearing the end of his career. His tale is highly encouraging and demonstrates that everything is achievable with hard work and devotion.
#3 Danny Granger
Danny Granger, another Indiana Pacers player who is a Jehovah’s Witness, also played for the team.
Granger played with the Pacers for nine seasons and was one of the team’s leading scorers. Following Indiana, the forward played for the Los Angeles Clippers and the Miami Heat. Unfortunately, he was unable to win a championship.
Granger was raised in a religious family by Jehovah’s Witnesses, but he wasn’t baptized until 2017, two years after his last NBA season.
