Battlefield 2042, the newest installment in EA’s FPS shooter franchise, has brought plenty of multiplayer action and devastation since its release last year.

Recently, the game began Season 3 – with it, the much-anticipated revelation that it will be available on Xbox Game Pass.

Here’s all we know about Battlefield 2042 and Xbox Game Pass.

Is Battlefield 2042 on Game Pass?

Yes. As of November 22, 2022 Battlefield 2042 is available on Game Pass on both Xbox and PC – with a few caveats.

The main one is that it’s only available to subscribers on the Ultimate Tier. This is because it’s part of the EA Play library – a companion service run by EA that spans multiple platforms, but subscription to this service is an additional perk on the Ultimate tier.

Those on just the standard Console Game Pass and PC Game Pass, therefore, do not get access to the game.

Will Battlefield 2042 become free?

Actually if you don’t have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, there’s some good news for those who want free Battlefield 2042 gameplay.

As part of the Season 3 launch, EA has announced certain limited-time free access periods across all platforms in December.

When is the Battlefield 2042 free access?

For checking in, you’ll have access to all free stuff in the game for the duration, including an immediate unlock of the Season 1 and Season 2 Specialists – Lis and Crawford – and certain cosmetics in the Battlefield 2042 Welcome Pack.

Any progress you make during the free access time will be saved if you buy the game after the free period ends. You’ll also be able to obtain the game at a reduced price if you buy it during the Christmas discounts, which will take place around the same time as the free access period.

The free access durations for each format are shown below. It’s also worth noting that you’ll need an active Xbox Live or PlayStation Plus subscription to play on those platforms.

  • Xbox:
    • December 1 at 12:01am PT (8:01am UK time) – December 4 at 11:59 PT (December 5, 07:59am UK time.)
  • PC (Steam)
    • December 1 at 10am PT (6pm UK time) – December 5 at 10am PT (6pm UK time)
  • PlayStation
